| During the XXth century, humanity has been the witness of a true revolution
in its way of life. The development of the industry of transports and the
development of the technologies of communication have led to a contraction
of the value of space and time. This fact has contributed to change the
way we see the world. Following, the digital technologies have created new
fields of perceptions and communications. The Figure as the Unique and the
Subject has lost its hierarchical value. We have entered the Era of the
Multiple, of the duplication and the connexion. However, we notice that these deep upheavals have not affected the classical organisation of power, which is always in the same hands. Worse, the vertical and pyramidal organisation has increased and the end of the XXth century sees the same groups of interests using the most advanced forms of technologies and communication to manipulate the public opinion and to stay in power. By creating a simulacra of gruesome spectacle, intended to gain a more and more exposed public to a mediatic bombing, the mainstream media and the industry of entertainment serve as useful relay and servile agents to these corporations. Internet offer a unique possibility in history of communication. it makes the democratisation of information possible by giving an horizontal and free access to the means of production and distribution for a larger and heterogeneous audience. At the same time, the embodied and globalized media dictate always the same story, History, a story of the winners and the dominators. A story, which does not account for differences of cultures or for the diversity of humanity. the XXth Century has been the century of ideologies. We postulate that the XXI st Century will be the century of the artists and the citizen of the civil society facing the Empire. It is our task to rearticulate History as it can be taught and told, by using the horizontal and democratic structure of the interconnected media. Little fragments, molecules of history ( the historic facts) have the properties to change their meaning when we change our point of view. We want to create an architecture of information, which could make possible a re -reading of history by linking these fragments together, and let them tell another story, History in all its multiple faces – voices. This is that position of critical witnesses facing History that we want to hold in the CAM project. |
