«With only 30
minutes to read and debate the proposed 9-page document, the Senate
unanimously passed an amendment to the 2002 appropriations budget entitled
"Combating Terrorism Act of 2001." The amendment will go to
committee for approval either today or tomorrow. The Bush Administration
jumped on board yesterday with its own amplified version of the bill.
Both pieces of legislation broadly expand law enforcement's wiretapping
and surveillance capabilities, giving particularly far-ranging powers
in cases of Internet surveillance.» |
Compared with the pervasive
neoliberal techno-management, the intelligence of the global movement
is of little importance. What’s to be done ? We need to invent
virtuous revolutionary radical machines to place them in the nodal points
of the network, as well as facing the general intellect that administers
the imperial meta-machines. Before starting this we need to be aware
of the density of the ’intelligence’ that is condensed in
each commodity, organization, message and media, in each machine of
postmodern society. |
«President Bush
has declared: “you’re either with us or against us.”
Here is our answer: We refuse to allow you to speak for all the American
people. We will not give up our right to question. We will not hand
over our consciences in return for a hollow promise of safety. We say
NOT IN OUR NAME. We refuse to be party to these wars and we repudiate
any inference that they are being waged in our name or for our welfare.
We extend a hand to those around the world suffering from these policies;
we will show our solidarity in word and deed(...)» |
«Congress has
given copyright holders expanded subpoena powers similar to those granted
to government officials under the USA PATRIOT Act. This means that whether
or not you use peer-to-peer file-sharing programs, the recording industry
(or anyone who claims to be a rights-holder!) can easily gain access
to your personal information - without a judge's oversight.» |
«In October 2004,
the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) took the historic
step of agreeing to consider the impact of its decisions on developing
nations • including assessing the impact of intellectual property
law and policy on technological innovation, access to knowledge, and
even human health. What's at stake is much more significant than the
harmony or disharmony of IP regulations. WIPO decisions affect everything
from the availability and price of AIDS drugs, to the patterns of international
development, to the communications architecture of the Internet. |
«Tomorrow US and
Ecuadorian government officials will meet in Washington, but the voices
of the Ecuadorian people have been heard loud and clear: they do not
want the failed model of corporate globalization that the US has been
trying to impose throughout Latin America. They saw the way that the
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) devastated small farmers
in Mexico, and they will not allow the same thing to happen in Ecuador.» |
